Printing from Debian Linux on Canon imageRunner 2530i

After countless hours trying to make it work, here is how I solved it:

1. Install Canon UFR II driver version 3.50 (latest) with sudo ./install.sh (make sure the script detects the architecture correctly and uses deb packages ant not rpm, otherwise hack the script internally to make it use the debs)

2. Most important: register the printer from `cngplp` and not from Debian's printer configuration.

That's pretty much it.
